Skip from the Loo: Toilet Paper Rolls

It seems that by far the most common re-use for toilet paper rolls is in kid crafts.  There are loads of ideas for crafting with toilet paper rolls — if you need some, Google “toilet roll crafts.” I’ve included some below, but I’m trying to avoid those which require you to print images or otherwise use *new* materials — in short I want to avoid creating more waste (no pun intended!).  I’m not totally consistent with this.  If I see something I really like, I post it even if it breaks my rules.  What can I say?  I’m a delinquent.

Regarding hygiene and the use of toilet paper rolls…  a few suggestions:

  1. Don’t use tubes found in public toilets — stick to your home use rolls.
  2. Don’t use tubes if they have, say fallen into the toilet.
  3. Um, CHANGE your roll immediately when it’s empty instead of letting it sit on the holder — in the open air.
  4. Leave one protective layer of TP on the tube while it’s still near the toilet.
  5. Um, wash your hands before and after touching the things.
  6. Don’t touch the things and then stick your fingers in your mouth, nose or eyes.
  7. If you’re a real germi-phobe and you want to use the things for cord holders, gifts boxes, hats, etc., maybe microwave them first (would that kill germs?? — sorry, I went to art school…).
  8. Take comfort in the fact that poo is everywhere — you probably stepped on a microscopic bit today — your toilet roll reuse should probably be the least of your worries.

From Junior Fritz Jacquet

Unfortunately, this guy’s website really stinks.  Nothing is click-able and some of the events don’t contain all necessary info (not that I’m going to be in France any time soon).  Still he does some cool stuff with cardboard.  Toilet paper roll art, anyone?
